Growing Food

We pride ourselves with our FOOD-GROWING project which has developed into a fundamental and essential part of Bonnie People. It is a landmark of beauty all inhabitants from the settlement admire and are inspired by. Our project is unique in the area as it is the only project that incorporates gardening into child care. Our children dug up stretches of weeds and thorn bushes, planted their own orchard and now regularly work in the garden.

We grow vegetables for the kitchen and on harvest days the excess is given to the children to take home with them on Fridays. Marketable vegetables are sold to local restaurants and on markets and passers-by from the settlement are handed vegetables freely over the fence upon request. As the community knows that we are there exclusively for them we have had no problems with crops being taken and the only thieves have been unwanted pigs that sneaked in at night and raided the vegetables.
